Next AGI debut — making general intelligence usable for everyone, not only complex AI
DeepMind’s HCI-for-AGI and cognitive-measurement work point the same way: AGI only matters if people can integrate it into real work — not just run opaque, complex AI stacks.

The next wave of AGI is not only about bigger models. It is about whether ordinary teams can integrate general intelligence into products, ops, and daily decisions — without needing a research lab to operate the stack.
Google DeepMind’s HCI for AGI research (Meredith Ringel Morris, ACM Interactions, Feb 2025) argues that as systems move toward artificial general intelligence, human–computer interaction must stay at the center: interaction techniques, interface design, evaluation methods, and data practices that keep AI useful for tasks people actually value. That framing matches what we see with clients — the blocker is rarely “access to a model”; it is clarity, control, and fit to the job.
DeepMind’s Measuring Progress Towards AGI: A Cognitive Taxonomy (Mar 2026) and the related Kaggle evaluation effort push the industry to measure learning, metacognition, attention, executive function, and social cognition — not only leaderboard scores. Transparent measurement is how non-specialists can trust what “AGI-ready” claims mean before they commit budget.
At Google I/O 2025, DeepMind described Gemini extending toward a world model and a universal AI assistant — systems that understand context, plan, and act across devices. Project Mariner–style computer use and agentic Search/Gemini paths show the direction: AGI-class capability packaged as assistants people can operate, not only as research demos.
What this means in practice for builders: design for integration first (APIs, permissions, human approval gates); expose cost and capability limits in plain language; evaluate with cognitive-style checks, not vanity metrics; and keep a path from “AI that does one complex trick” to “AGI that helps many kinds of people finish real work.”
